Strategy Analytics: Amazon Takes Lead as Connected TV Device Sales Reach New Peak

Strategy Analytics put out a press release lauding the rise of Amazon to the top of the list of connected device brands and said that 2020 sales of both smart TVs (186M) and media streamers (81M) reached new records. SA said that Amazon’s Fire TV Stick 4K is the key reason for its success.

NextTV pointed out that the release separates TCL and Hisense from Roku, whose platform is used by those brands. If you added their shares (5.7%+4.7%) to Roku’s share (5.8%), you get a total of 16.2% share, which would be above Amazon.

What We Think

So, SA may be accurate in devices and hardware, but the platform is also a big deal. (BR)
