What They Say
NEC said that Star Alliance Biometrics has been introduces for frequent flyers at Frankfurt and Munich airports for customers of Lufthansa and Swiss International Air Lines. The system uses touchless biometrics to allow security clearance and boarding, although not all points are yet equipped, so boarding passes must still be carried.
What We Think
This item caught my eye, not because it is particularly display-related (although the terminals would all need displays), but because it was published by Richard Wilks. He was, for a number of years, the airport specialist at NEC Display Solutions in Europe and whenever I thought I was doing a lot of flying, I had only to think of him to realise that I was just an amateur. Not only did often make several flights each week, whereas I would usually get to see the cities I visited, at least in passing, he rarely got out of the terminals! I can’t help but note that he has stayed within the NEC group, rather than moving over to the new Sharp NEC business!
However, in attending the Passenger Terminal Expo shows, the rapid progress in biometric security were both apparent and clearly being developed by all those that wanted to make the most of the opportunity. (BR)
