SPI/FilmBox and LG Announce A New 4K Deal

LG Electronics and SPI International/Filmbox are announcing a collaboration to promote the new line of LG Super UHD televisions (in the U.S., U.K. Turkey, Morocco known as LG Prime UHD) and to make more 4K content available to LG Smart TV users in Poland, Greece, Romania, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

A special new promotion lets LG customers enjoy the FilmBox 4K library featured in the FilmBox Live app on the LG Smart TV platform. FilmBox 4K includes a selection of movies that may be watched in 4K resolution as well as native Ultra HD content such as documentary films on wildlife and nature, music videos, eye-popping CGI animations and many more.

The collaboration between LG and FilmBox is great news for those who don’t have access to very high internet speeds fast enough for 4K streams required by most of the other 4K content providers in the market. FilmBox 4K on LG Smart TV has been designed to address this issue by creating a VOD library which can be enjoyed by almost everyone who has access to Internet in their home. The technology applied by SPI/Filmbox on LG Smart TVs allows home subscribers to stream 4K content from the FilmBox 4K library using their regular residential Internet connection.

While there is an ongoing discussion about the lack of UHD content, which has been the biggest gripe in the fledgling 4K world, LG and FilmBox have come up with a perfect solution by giving the LG Smart TV users access to FilmBox 4K, a VOD service comprised of a variety of programming that makes Ultra HD content available on the TV set at home including movies with such Hollywood superstars as Al Pacino, Pierce Brosnan, Ewan McGregor, Penelope Cruz and Scarlett Johanssonamong many others.

SPI/Filmbox and LG have already collaborated on a 4K project in Poland. The pilot service which was launched last November is called “Kino LG 4K”. It is a unique service boasting an impressive library of movies that may be enjoyed in Ultra HD quality. Along with the most recent introduction of the new line of LG SUPER UHD TV sets, “Kino LG 4K” library has been expanded to 80 movies.

“We are excited to cooperate with LG Electronics to help promote this exciting new technology to consumers. Our previous successful collaboration to introduce Ultra HD movie watching experience in Poland provided a promising base for this new effort in other countries,” said Berk Uziyel, Executive Director of Filmbox International Ltd. “Our top priority is providing our customers with the best entertainment experiences, so we are excited to give them the opportunity to be among the first to enjoy movies and other types of content in pristine 4K resolution. We are currently developing our first linear channel featuring UHD content. We plan to launch 4K FunBox UHD in the Fall of 2015,” Mr. Uziyel added.
