A leak on Chinese social network Weibo – from a source that has been correct on Samsung stories in the past – claims that Samsung will launch its ‘Project Valley’ smartphone (Rumour: Project Valley is Samsung’s Foldable Phone) in January. The source says that the phone is being tested with Snapdragon 620 and 820 chips.
Analyst Comment
Samsung Display is reported to have been showing this concept or something similar since CES in 2014. The main challenge is not the flexibility or performance, but ensuring that the unit can survive touch operations. The company also showed a trifold tablet/phone at CES this year in its suite (Samsung Display Backs OLED). My view is that this technology could re-vitalise the smartphone and tablet markets. (BR)
