Why does this matter? Raspberry Pi is used in digital signage solutions, probably not enough, mostly notably by Sharp/NEC’s. Apart from that, there’s a very robust universe of open source applications and projects for the use of Raspberry Pi in digital signage, and while some may seem designed for hobbyists, it’s a phenomenal product, programmers love it, and it’s cheap.
Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation (SSS) and Raspberry Pi Ltd. (RPL) have announced a strategic partnership in the development of machine learning and AI applications for the edge. As part of the agreement, SSS will make a minority investment in RPL, with the aim of providing a development platform for SSS’s edge AI devices to the global Raspberry Pi community.
According to Terushi Shimizu, CEO of SSS, the partnership aims to provide new value to various industries and assist them in solving issues using SSS’s innovative edge AI sensing technology built around image sensors. Eben Upton, CEO of Raspberry Pi, expressed his excitement about expanding their partnership with Sony, which is already a longstanding and valued strategic partner. The transaction will enable them to bring SSS’ line of AI products to the Raspberry Pi ecosystem, providing their users with a unique development experience to build new machine-learning applications at the edge.
