Sony’s PlayStation has sold 525.3 million systems since the release of the original PlayStation back in 1994, the company has announced. Sony has released a special edition translucent PS4 system with a matching Dual Shock 4 controller and a 2TB hard drive for $500, to commemorate selling over 500 million PlayStations.
This figure includes the original PlayStation; PS2 (currently the best-selling game console of all time); the company’s first handheld system, the PSP; PS3; PlayStation Vita; and PS4, as well as each generation’s “Slim” upgrade and the most recent addition, the PS4 Pro, a mid-generation refresh which added Ultra HD and HDR capabilities, among other upgrades.
