At a recent press event, Sony North America officials denied rumours that parent company Sony Electronics would spin off its audio and video businesses.
Mike Fasulo, president of Sony North America, said, “We are not spinning anything off… It [Sony’s new corporate structure] gives us autonomy in decision making, but it also provides for light infrastructure required for us to move forward and be competitive in the markets we’re in.”
The new structure aims to provide greater local control in North America, and accountability to revive the company’s sales.
At the same event, Fasulo and deputy president Toshi Okuda said that Sony North America would focus on premium electronics in the future, without worrying about market share. The company will concentrate on selling $1,200+ TVs.
