Sony Acquires LTE Chip Firm

Sony

Sony has acquired Altair Semiconductor, for $212 million. The company expects to complete the transaction in early February.

Altair is an Israeli company, which owns modem chip technology and related software for the 4G-LTE standard. Sony says that, by combining Altair’s technology with its own sensing technologies and image sensors, the company will attempt to develop a ‘new breed’ of cellular-connected, sensing component devices.
