Some Recovery in EMEA DTM Market in Q3

The EMEA Desktop Monitor market saw a better than normal seasonal boost from Q2, with 15% quarter on quarter growth, but the market was still down nearly 10% on Q3 last year according to Meko’s DisplayCast market research service. Although Russia, which had disastrous sales in Q1 and Q2, recovered to some extent, sales were still a long way down from historic levels.

Western Europe saw flat volumes on a year on year basis, which was very positive, given recent PC market results and the strong result meant that the relative importance of Western Europe on the overall market size increased.

“Western Europe has represented two thirds of the market so far this year, the highest level in more than ten years”, said Bob Raikes, Principal Analyst at Meko. “Conversely, Eastern Europe is at the lowest level since 2003 at just 21.2% for the year to date. The Middle East and Africa markets were also very weak, because of low oil prices and political and economic problems”, he added.

For the first time, Dell took top position over the region, ahead of Samsung, which has traditionally been strong in Russia and MEA. Acer also had a good result, with strong shipments in Germany as it fulfilled some government contracts.
