Smart TV Penetration to Reach 57% in Western Europe This Year

Parks Associates research is showing that smart TV penetration will reach 57% in Western Europe this year. At the same time connectivity rates for smart TV is increasing, and in the US 82% of smart TV owners connect their device to the Internet. New applications for devices owners are helping owners find new value in their connected devices.

Brad Russell, research analyst believes that the role of TV in the home is evolving, with smart TVs becoming an entertainment source that is independent of the set-top box and other streaming devices. Smart TVs are becoming an interface for smart home devices and a viewing platform for video streams from networked security cameras and video doorbells. Google Home also introduced the capability to cast visual search results from voice interactions to any Google Cast-enabled device, such as a smart TV, effectively making the TV a large-format viewing device.
