A camera monitor the size of a smartphone has been introduced by SmallHD. The unit is described as ‘the sharpest 5″ camera-top monitor in the world’ – it has 1920 x 1080 resolution (441 ppi)
The 502 covers up to 85% of the NTSC colour gamut ‘rivaling OLED technology’, claims SmallHD. It also features a custom-built processing engine, to accept ‘nearly any resolution and framerate’. A 3D LUT can be applied to images.
The display weighs 170g (weight is an issue in the field) and is 19mm thick. A joystick is supplied with the unit, mimicking touch functionality without getting smudge marks on the display, or moving it during operation.
A price and release date have not yet been announced, but SmallHD will have a stand at the upcoming NAB show, and we hope to find the information there.
