Analogix Semiconductor, Inc. today announced that Acer’s new Predator 8 GT-810 tablet and previously released Iconia Tab 10 A3-A30 both feature a built-in SlimPort® interface, which allows consumers to expand their viewing experience by displaying high-resolution digital media from their tablets to external high-definition TVs, monitors and projectors.
“SlimPort enables Acer tablet users to display their content on additional screens, turning their personalized multimedia into a shared entertainment experience,” said Andrew Chuang, General Manager, Tablet Business Unit, Smart Products Business Group at Acer. “With these features, users can immerse themselves in games, movies and a whole lot more, securely, with flawless quality. At Acer, we continue to incorporate leading technology that enhances the overall user experience.”
SlimPort is a simple and reliable plug-and-play connection that uses the existing charging USB connector on the mobile device, and lets it carry high-speed signals in a bidirectional way between the device and display, while also delivering power in a bidirectional manner. When SlimPort is not in use, the USB port supports normal data synchronization and power charging functions. When a SlimPort accessory is connected, however, the USB port also supports external display connectivity, with resolutions up to 4K Ultra-HD, and up to 8-channels of digital audio, including Dolby Digital and DTS-HD.
“We’re pleased that Acer selected SlimPort for their new line of entertainment and gaming tablets,” said Andre Bouwer, vice president of marketing for Analogix. “Consumers are able to transform their living room TV into their tablet monitor and share movies, photos and apps with their family and friends or compete in multiplayer games from their tablet to the big screen. Their mobile device is now effectively replacing high quality video-players, game consoles and even personal computers.”
