Slidenjoy is a High-Quality Laptop Screen – Without a Laptop

Laptops – they’re designed to be portable, but the trade-off is a lack of screen real estate. Or is it?

A new project on Kickstarter – which was funded less than three days after being posted – aims to expand laptop usability while on-the-go. The Slidenjoy is a unit that can be attached to the rear of a laptop’s display. It is connected via a USB 3.0 cable, which provides power and video signals. When needed, one or two extra screens can slide out from the unit. These can be folded, so others can see them without seeing the laptop display.

The Slidenjoy appears to add about 1″ to the thickness of a laptop. Three versions will be available, with 13″, 15″ and 17″ screens, although they will all cost the same. The screens use IPS panels, with a 5ms response time, 60Hz refresh rate and 1920 x 1080 resolution.

A one-screen Slidenjoy starts at €200, while the two-screen unit starts at €400.

We have seen similar projects in the past, such as the Sideline Cinq (Display Monitor Vol 17 No 4). However, most of these have had low-quality displays. Seeing one with an IPS panel and FullHD resolution is a breath of fresh air! (TA)
