Simplay Labs Announces Three New Services to Test and Validate Compliance to Key Video Standards

Simplay Labs®, LLC, a Lattice Semiconductor company and leading provider of compliance tools, standards and interoperability testing services for consumer electronics (CE) and mobile devices, today announced that its Shanghai, China lab is now ready to test HDMI®Alternate Mode (“Alt Mode”) for USB Type-C™ Specification.

Similar services will be available at Simplay Labs’ facility in Taiwan by the end of Q1 ’17. In addition, all Simplay Labs locations are ready to test HDCP 2.2 IIA Specification supporting the Miracast interface. ULTRA HD PREMIUM™certification testing will be offered at Simplay Labs’ Shenzhen, China location starting in April 2017.

The HDMI “Alt Mode” for USB testing service has been something many cable manufacturers have been waiting for since the announcement of the specification in September 2016. HDMI-enabled source devices, such as smartphones, tablets and PCs, will utilize a USB Type-C connector to directly connect to HDMI-enabled displays over a single cable. The service will support the compliance testing specification and policies currently in place for the HDMI 1.4b standard.

Simplay Labs developed a test tool approved by DCP in 2016 in anticipation of the release of displays, smartphones and tablets capable of supporting the HDCP 2.2 IIA Specification. The SL-8810 test tool validates compliance to the specification and ability to securely transmit premium, copy protected content. The UHDA’s ULTRA HD PREMIUM logo identifies the certified products and services that meet or exceed specified performance levels for resolution, high dynamic range (HDR) and wide color spectrum. TVs, Blu-ray players, Blu-ray disc content, as well as cable/satellite and streaming service providers meeting the specification deliver a richer and more dynamic viewing experience for consumers.

“As the premier testing organization to ensure interoperability and compliance of the latest video standards, Simplay Labs is equipped with the expertise and tools that consumer and mobile manufacturers have come to rely on,” said Solomon Langley, general manager of Simplay Labs. “With the latest services supporting both HDMI ‘Alt Mode’ and Wi-Fi Certified Miracast products for HDCP 2.2 IIA, we can help ensure devices operate seamlessly and in compliance with the respective specifications.”
