Sigmaintell Sees TV Growth Slowing

What They Say

Sigmaintell suggested that in the second half of 2021, the global TV market will weaken. While the first half of 2021 was 6.1% up, the second half is likely to see shipments of 127 million, down 14.4%, lower than the level in 2019 for the second half.

The firm sees most opportunity in the high end market dominated by Samsung, Sony and LGE. Some emerging brands such as Xiaomi, Huawei, and Oppo have strong market appeal in the Chinese local market.

The firm expects sales of 6.3 million for OLED TVs this year, up 77% and increasing to nearly 10 million by 2022. The gap between LCD and OLED module prices is still high, but has been declining from 2.1 times and 1.9 times at the beginning of the year to 1.8 times and 1.7 times, for 65″ and 55″ sizes respectively.

The article includes a detailed comparison of the product lines of LG and Sony in OLED and Samsung, TCL and LGE in miniLED. It also looks at miniLED penetration and refresh rates.
