Sigmaintell Sees Big Boost in Automotive Display Sales

What They Say

Although there have been lots of reports of problems in chip supply for the automotive industry, the display industry grew well in Q3 of 2021 reaching 41.85 million units, equivalent to 25.6% year on year growth. That brought the sales for the year to date to around 120 million with an increase of 30.4% year on year. The number of displays per car is increasing rapidly, the firm said.

Looking at the different suppliers, Tianma was top with growing sales of LTPS and panels over 10″. JDI recovered from a difficult Q2 because of chip supply. AUO was third for the quarter, but second for the year to date. BOE continues to grow at the fastest rate of all the suppliers and added to its share with 1.9 million panels supplied above those detailed in the table, for use in the after market. LGD is shifting to larger and LTPS panels.

LTPS panels are increasing their volume, up to 19 million for the year is forecast, up 83.4% and with penetration increasing to around 12%. The total market for 2021 is expected to reach 164 million, up 22% from 2020.

What We Think

CES has increasingly become an automotive event and the move to electric vehicles will further boost the demand for impressive and large displays. (BR)
