Witsview of Taiwan reported that LCD monitor shipments were up 0.3% year on year in Q1 2018 after a strong March, following a weak January and February. Last year at this time, monitor brands were reluctant to increase volumes because of high panel prices for smaller sized panels. This year, declining panel prices have improved margins.
As a result, the firm has updated its forecast for the year to a 0.4% drop in volume, against a previous forecast of a drop of 2.5%.
There is also good demand for curved gaming monitors and the analyst believes that 40% of all gaming monitors are now curved.
