Sharp is developing an UltraHD smartphone display, according to China’s Tech Feng website.
According to the source, demand from Chinese manufacturers is behind the move. The panel or panels, in 5″- 6″ sizes, will enter production at a Sharp plant in Taki in 2016. To put this in perspective, a 5.5″ UltraHD panel would have 842 ppi! Tech Feng also claims that another panel, with a pixel density of 600 ppi, is under development and is expected to be released in Sharp’s next fiscal year (beginning in April 2015).
Sharp is also said to be working to improve the manufacturing uniformity of LTPS displays.
