Sharp Rethinks TV Licensing

sharp

Sharp has said that it will review its TV brand licensing in Europe and the Americas, in an effort to raise its global presence. Sharp licensed its brand to Slovakia’s UMC in Europe in early 2015 and to Hisense in the USA in mid-2015.

In a statement, the company said, “We have decided to review our current brand licensing business in Europe and Americas, and are currently examining various possibilities.” This followed a report by Japan’s Yomiuri newspaper, which claimed that Sharp will send officials to negotiate buying back its TV businesses in Europe and the USA next month.

Sharp apparently now believes that it can make its TV business profit-making again, with the help of Foxconn’s economies of scale and client base.
