Unconfirmed reports from Asia suggest that Sharp will start to ship smartphones using the company’s own OLED panels in Q4, with EVP Katsuaki Nomura quoted as the source of the information.
Separately, Sharp has said that it will stop making household appliances in Japan with production moving to Thailand and to other Foxconn facilities. The company will stop making LCD TVs at its Tochigi plant, which originally made CRT TVs.The Osaka fridge plant will close. Staff will be redeployed.
