Sharp has made an impressive comeback this quarter, according to global LCD TV shipment figures published by WitsView, a division of TrendForce.
While Samsung, LG and TCL retained their first, second and third positions respectively, Sharp made a huge jump up from ninth to fourth place, having almost doubled its shipments worldwide since Q1. The company also enjoyed a substantial growth of 70% year-on-year in the first half of 2017, shipping a total of 3.8 million units.
The report goes on to say that this significant boost to performance can be attributed to company owner Foxconn’s successful integration of its upstream and downstream resources.
TCL also made significant gains, with a growth of 21.1%.
Sony holds steady in fifth place, with a quarterly growth of 15.9%, whereas Hisense dropped by 2.8%, falling from fourth to sixth. Samsung and LG also registered drops of 6.9% and 3.1% respectively.
WitsView revealed that overall global TV shipments fell by 5.2% year-on-year in the first half of 2017, but things appear to be on the up as shipments have increased by 7.6% since Q1. Analysts have adjusted their annual TV shipment forecast from 219 million to 214 million, a drop of 2.3%.

Even the forecast of 214 million sets may prove to be too optimistic, I fear. (BR)
