Seoul Semiconductor Files Patent Lawsuit

At the end of last month, Seoul Semiconductor filed a patent infringement lawsuit at the District Court of Düsseldorf in Germany, against Mouser Electronics asserting infringement of a LED patent relating to high-power light emission.

It is believed that the allegedly infringing Mouser Electronics products are manufactured by multiple LED companies, including Everlight Electronics, that has previously been involved in a LED infringement case. Seoul Semiconductor has sought a permanent injunction, damages, and for the recall and destruction of any infringing products.

The patent in question, relates to the efficient extraction of light emitted from the internal LED structure by treating LED chip surfaces and thereby improving light intensity and brightness. This technique has been widely used for various high-power LED applications.

Seoul Semiconductor said it plans to actively defend its patent assets against infringing high-power LED technologies and has already identified infringements of other patents it possesses.
