Semiconductor Shortages Hitting Smartphone Industry Hard; Counterpoint Lowers H2 2021 Shipment Forecasts

What They Say

Counterpoint Research has reduced its shipment forecast for smartphones in 2021 from 9% growth to just 6% at 1.4 billion units because of the semiconductor shortage. The firm said that OEMs and vendors had been getting 80% of their requests in Q2, but this has declined to 70% now. One of the factors in the shortage of APUs is the low yield rates being seen in newly established fab lines and has been affecting all brands, although Apple ‘seems to be the most resilient’.

What We Think

I guess a firm that is led by a supply chain specialist should be more resilient than most! (BR)
