What They Say
DSCC has increased the detail of its tracking service for flexible OLEDs and in announcing that said that panel shipments for the upcoming iPhone 14, expected to be launched on September 7th have been ramping up strongly, with SDC the key supplier at 82% of the projected June to September volume. That is down only one percentage point compared to last year, despite the efforts of LGD and BOE. Cumulative panel shipments are over 34 million.
Over the first four months, our latest data now shows the iPhone 14 with the highest share of shipments with a 29% share followed by the iPhone 14 Pro Max at 27% and the iPhone 14 Pro at 26% followed by the iPhone 14 Max with a 19% share. (chart on the blog). The Pro Max share is lower than previously projected as LGD is not yet qualified to ship LTPO Pro Max production models to Apple. The iPhone 14 Max was way behind after August but is finally catching up in September with the second highest volume on both a production and shipment basis.
What We Think
I’m slightly surprised that BOE and LGD have not got a bigger share, but as we reported earlier this year, BOE was affected in its supply to Apple earlier this year over a mask change and DSCC pointed out that LGD has not yet supplied LTPO panels for iPhones to Apple, so there are some good reasons. DSCC said that there is a substantial difference between the prices from SDC and from the others, so Apple has an incentive to try to buy from them. (BR)
