What They Say

Wixin of China, quoting the Hubei Daily, reports that San’an will start trial production at its new facility in Ezhou, Hubei Province. The development started in July 2019 and was at one point delayed by Covid, but recovered the schedule and Phase 2 is said to be six months ahead of the original schedule.

According to the report the first phase will produce 1.61 million Gallium Nitride chips, 0.75 million Gallium Arsenide and 84K packages for UltraHD display screens. Customers will include Samsung, Apple and Huawei.

What We Think

We reported several years ago that Samsung had done a deal with San’an. Samsung and San’an Opto Sign Agreement to Co-develop Micro LED Displays. Clearly, this is a relatively small development but any movement towards mass production is interesting in the microLED field. (BR)
