Samsung to supply 5 million automotive AMOLED displays to BMW

What They Say

The ET News in Korea reported that Samsung Display has been chosen to supply OLEDs to BMW for a ‘high end sedan’ from 2024 with volumes reaching 4 million units over 6-7 years. SDC is also said to be close to a new deal to supply Audi with OLEDs. Hyundai is said to already be a client for OLEDs used in the Ioniq 5.

The article quotes a forecast from Omdia of growth in automotive OLEDs from KRW 56 billion ($43.6 million) in 2020 to KRW 680 billion ($530 million) by 2025.

What We Think

LG Display has been leading the automotive market, but it must look attractive to Samsung as it develops new applications for OLED. (BR)
