Samsung Combats Android With Windows

In a bid to reduce its reliance on Android, Samsung will release several affordable handsets based on Windows Phone 8.1 this year.

The news comes from The Korea Times, whose source – a Samsung official – claims that the company has already run pilot programmes to test the operating system on its hardware.

Originally Samsung had planned to use its own Tizen OS as an Android competitor, but has had several issues with the OS on mobile phones and so will focus on using it for TVs instead.

The Korea Times says that Samsung Windows Phone handsets will be released in Q3 at the earliest.
