Samsung to launch TVs with LG Display’s OLED in June at the earliest

What They Say

The Elec reports that the discussions between Samsung’s TV business and LG Display have now been resolved with respect to the price to be paid – which will be the same as that charged by LGD to LG Electronics, the paper said. The volume it will buy has been set at 1.5 million which will be added to half a million QD OLED sets to total 2 million OLED sets in 2022 and 3 million Neo QLED miniLED sets. The Elec said that the OLED sets will be available around June.

What We Think

To be honest, I couldn’t conceive of a situation where Samsung would pay less than LG Electronics. It remains to be seen where Samsung positions the OLEDs in pricing terms. Will it squeeze its own margins to lower set prices, or be forced to reconsider its pricing relative to the miniLED sets? (QD-OLED vs miniLED – The Challenge of Positioning) (BR)
