Samsung to Buy QDVision?

OLED Info has reported that Samsung may be about to acquire quantum dot supplier and developer, QD Vision for $70 million, although the site was unable to verify the rumour.

QD Vision was one of the first to get to market with its tube-based QD technology, but we were not impressed with the sample monitor that we looked at that used the technology and we also heard that the “simple” engineering of its solution turned out to be not as simple as it seemed. Meanwhile the company got into a patent dispute with Nanosys. It has also been slugging it out with Nanoco over cadmium and EU exemptions. It’s rarely a surprise to see a start-up cash in, even though this is not likely to be a big pay day for investors. From Samsung’s point of view, it might acquire useful ip, which could be useful as it is so committed to QD technology. (BR)
