Samsung announced the latest version of its latest commercial LED display “The Wall” with a number of improvements:
- 1,600 cd/m² peak brightness and new ‘Black Seal Technology’ for deeper blacks
- ‘Ultra Chroma’ technology with colours ‘twice as pure’ and more accurate in colour than traditional LEDs
- LEDs are 40% smaller (it’s unclear if this is linear or by area)
- 120Hz frame rate support
- AI-based image optimisation up to 8K with 20 bit processing.
- Wireless docking and options for concave, convex, ceiling, hanging, inclined and L-type installation
- One off ‘factory seam adjustment’ for faster alignment and installation
- Up to 16K horizontal resolution for 1,000″ diagonal displays
- Up to 4 PBP screens using different sources
- 40% lighter and 50% thinner than previous models
The Korea Herald said that less than 100 orders have so far been placed for ‘The Wall’ products. It also quoted DSCC as saying that the value of microLED TVs (not commercial displays) would rise from $25 million this year to $228 million by 2026. It also quoted Omdia as forecasting unit shipments from Omdia in the chart below.
What We Think
Oh, the frustration of Covid! No doubt this display would have been on show at Infocomm and would have impressed. The depth of Samsung’s efforts and technology is shown by the range of areas that have seen improvement in this generation. (BR)
