What They Say
Samsung launched its Neo 8K QLED TVs with a webcast. Highlights were:
- The sets have Smart Home hub functions to allow them to be used for home control
- They have new packaging using less ink and no metal staples, and have remotes with solar cells and recharge by harvesting 2.6GHz Wi-fi
- You can use the set to buy digital NFT artwork (via Nifty Gateway). Display settings are automatically optimised for NFTs
- There is streaming gaming from Nvidia, Stadia and Utomik.
- Games can be played at 4K@144Hz with just 5ms of input lag.
- More miniLEDs at higher density (but no data given) with 14 bit control, up from 12 bit.
- All Neo QLED 8K models are ‘Pantone Validated’ for colour
- Improved audio includes integration between the set and sound bars.
- There are new mounts to allow the display to be very close to the wall or to be supported on a light looking tripod. The sets can use an optional rotating mount system to automatically adopt a vertical orientation
- Multiple AI processors are used in parallel to optimise image quality with the ‘Neural Quantum Processor’ with different parts of the image receiving different processing
- 8K video that has been captured on the Galaxy S22 can be sent directly from the handset to the sets.
What We Think
Well, this was a bit dull and there was no mention of anything like the QD-OLED. There’s no doubt that Samsung Electronics really wants to concentrate on its NEO QLED 8K sets. (BR)
