According to The Bell, Samsung Display will supply a 6.9″ OLED display for a forthcoming smartphone from Huawei, as reported by The Investor. Panel shipments are expected to commence during the third quarter of 2018, which indicates a fourth-quarter or early 2019 release for the device.
The panel is said to be the largest that Samsung has ever produced for smartphone application. Other large-display smartphones coming later this year include Samsung’s own Galaxy Note 9 and Apple’s rumoured 6.46″ iPhone.
The report highlighted a specific use case for larger smartphone displays in China, where Huawei is currently the leading smartphone vendor — they are more preferable for handwriting in the Chinese language.
