What They Say
The Elec reports that Samsung’s TV business will decide this month where to go with its discussions with LG Display over the purchase of WOLED panels for TVs. The firms have been in prolonged discussions but have not agreed on pricing. It is considered that if a decision is not made now, there will be no chance to launch at the beginning of next year.
The site pointed out that falling LCD prices may have changed Samsung’s profitability calculations.
What We Think
This has been a long drawn out story with lots of “it’s on” and “it’s off” moments. It was never going to be simple, but was made much more complex by Samsung’s desire to keep its QLED sets as it’s most premium, whereas LG sees the OLED sets as the premium model.
