What They Say
reports that Samsung has submitted a patent application in the US for a “Self Repair Assistant” that is described as a “computer application software for mobile phones” for self-repair, self-maintenance, and self-installation of devices including smartphones, smart watches, tablet computers, and earbuds.
The Verge speculated that Samsung might be working with iFixit, but had not confirmed that at press time.
What We Think
I’m having some issues with my Galaxy S22 Ultra at the moment. I thought it was a hardware problem (it kept re-starting) after a display and battery repair. I tweaked my back running with cases in Berlin trying to catch a plane (I missed it) and I had a ‘twinge’ as I was just putting the handset into my pocket during IBC. I was on a station platform that had pebbles in the surface and, of course, the phone landed screen down. I got it (expensively) repaired by a mobile service. It occasionally re-started after that on a trip to the US and then it got a lot worse.
However, taking out a lot (and I have a lot of apps!) it has improved a lot, although still causing trouble from time to time. Uninstalling one particular app caused the system to restart and after that problems have been less frequent, but there have still be some issues. I really need to do a longer test in ‘safe mode’. Short tests in safe mode (a couple of hours) show no hardware problems but it’s really tricky to diagnose which app is causing trouble, if it is an app. (BR)
