According to Reuters, Samsung is seeking to buy Blackberry to acquire the company’s patent portfolio.
Blackberry was looking to sell in 2013 (Display Monitor Vol 20 No 31). Several rumours of interested parties – including Samsung – appeared at the time, but these died away once Blackberry decided to remain as-was (Display Monitor Vol 20 No 43).
Now, says Reuters, Samsung has offered as much as $7.5 billion to acquire the Canadian company. Shares jumped 30% when the rumour broke, but fell 15% after Blackberry released a statement denying the reports.
