Samsung Launches Viewfinity S9 5K Ultra-High Resolution Monitor in Korea

Samsung has launched the Viewfinity S9 (S90PC), a 5K ultra-high resolution monitor tailored for graphic designers requiring precise color work in Korea. With a 27-inch (68.4 cm) screen, the Viewfinity S9 boasts a resolution of 5K (5,120 x 2,880) and an impressive 218 PPI (Pixels per Inch). This is Samsung’s answer to Apple’s Studio Displays.

The Viewfinity S9 supports a maximum brightness of 600 nits and can accurately display colors up to 99% of the DCI-P3 color gamut. It has a Smart Calibration feature, enabling users to adjust color and brightness to their desired values using a smartphone by using the SmartThings app and pointing the smartphone camera at the center of the Viewfinity S9 screen, then selecting various settings such as brightness, gamma values, color temperature, and color gamut standards, to get precise color matching.

To ensure color accuracy, the monitor undergoes factory calibration during the production process, and users can easily access the calibration results on the monitor’s settings screen. The Viewfinity S9 employs a matte display to minimize light reflection. The monitor has received ‘Glare Free’ verification, further enhancing the viewing experience.

In terms of connectivity, the Viewfinity S9 supports both Thunderbolt 4 and Mini DisplayPort, allowing for up to 90W charging and a transmission speed of up to 40Gbps. This compatibility ensures an optimized environment for designers using Mac or Windows operating systems. Additionally, the monitor features an ergonomic stand design with free height adjustment (HAS), up and down angle adjustment (Tilt), horizontal/vertical conversion (Pivot), and VESA standard wall mount compatibility, providing flexibility in monitor placement.

The Viewfinity S9 includes a slim-fit camera with 4K resolution and also incorporates something called the Intelligent Eye Care function, which protects users’ eyes from fatigue during prolonged work sessions. Although, the monitor also offers the Samsung Smart TV App and Gaming Hub which pretty much extends the viewing options so maybe your eyes don’t get that much rest.

The Viewfinity S9 is priced at 1.7 million won ($1,300). It will be exclusively sold on Samsung.com, with pre-sales starting today and the official release being on July 3rd, 2023.
