What They Say
At the Samsung Developer Conference, the firm said that it is developing an extension to HDR10+ with better features for gaming, in particular:
- VRR (Variable Refresh Rates) (up to 120Hz)
- Automated HDR Calibration (speculation is that this is based on the HGiG protocol.
- Low Latency Source Tone Mappings (intended to help cloud gaming to be as good as local gaming)
The technology will be available in 2022.
What We Think
This is being seen as an extension to react to extensions to Dolby Vision extending into gaming. However, it makes a lot of sense as gaming convenience and performance has been getting more important in the TV market. (BR)
