Samsung has been saying for a while that it was interested in licensing its Tizen OS to partner TV brands. According to Channel News in Australia, the firm has signed with local distributor Tempo to license the OS for TVs with the Akai, Bauhn and Linsar brands. The deal extends to New Zealand, the UK, France, Italy and Spain.
What We Think
Commentators have pointed out that the screen shots showing Tizen in use on these sets are using last year’s version. That might not be surprising as these second tier brands are less likely to be at the ‘state of the art’ for processor chips.

LG has also been widening its use of WebOS by other brands since last year. (LG to accelerate foray into WebOS TV platform market). The firm said that it was trying to boost its take up by a factor of 10, but we see that as challenging. Interestingly, one of the brands that LG announced as adopting WebOS back when it promoted the wider use of its TV OS was Bauhn which has now licensed Tizen.
