What They Say
UBI Research, the Korean specialist OLED analyst, said that it expects Samsung’s 2021 foldable smartphones to include pen functions. The implementation was deferred from an initial plan to include it in the Galaxy Z Fold 2 as the glass was considered to be too thin. The Note series uses EMR technology (like a Wacom pad – editor) in the current Note models.
UBI said that this might change to use an extra sensitive Y-OCTA touch technology. The glass may also increase in thickness from 30?m to 60?m. The firm’s release was slightly confusing, but suggests that there might be a sandwich structure or there might be an extra PET layer.
What We Think
Yields are an issue. As we reported, at the DSCC/SID Business Conference, there was a report that some makers are buying two pieces of glass for every phone, because of yield issues.(BR)
