Samsung Electronics Aims to Boost Sales of Foldable Phones

What They Say

Korean media reports that Samsung Electronics mobile head, Roh Tae-moon said that

“By 2025, foldable items will take up more than 50 percent of Samsung‘s total premium smartphone shipments,”

The Korea Herald reports that Samsung’s share of the premium market has shrunk to 17% compared to 60% for Apple, quoting data from Counterpoint Research which forecast that Samsung will sell close to 9 million units of Z Flip 4 and Z Fold 4 combined this year. The researcher also forecast the annual foldables shipments globally to grow to 16 million units in 2022 and 26 million in 2023.

What We Think

Yesterday I was grumbling that my S22 Ultra was too big (especially too thick) and the Fold4 is 14-15mm against the 8.9mm of my Ultra. I certainly wouldn’t want a Fold until there are down to, at most around 10mm and that may take quite some time. (BR)
