The Elec in Korea reports that Samsung has dropped its plan to put an under-display camera in the Galaxy S21 series due next year because of low yield in production. The company will try to adopt the concept in the Galaxy Z Fold 3, due later in 2021. The paper reports that Samsung is using HIAA 2 technology which makes micro holes in the display using lasers and which uses Wonik IPS’s vacuum chamber and a Philoptics’ laser.
What We Think
For premium brands with established businesses, adopting this kind of technology can be a real challenge as they balance performance, cost and attractiveness of the features. (BR)
