Samsung Display’s rigid OLED production lines are dropping their output by up to 50% according to a document from ETNews in Korea. Citing industry representatives, the document states that the company has reduced the operation rate of its A1 and A2 rigid OLED production lines until the Korean New Year, February 19th.
According to the report, the rigid OLED business is struggling within the smartphone market due to the Chinese manufacturers opting instead for Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Silicon (LTPS) LCD, which costs less than rigid OLED.
The document goes on to say that the price of rigid OLED has dropped continuously to compete with LTPS LCD, but competition is still fierce as the price of LTPS LCD also continues to drop.
