What They Say
Reuters has reported, quoting IT Chosun as the source, that Samsung Display has further delayed the shutdown of its LCD making in Korea. No definite final date has been set, and it will be adjusted according to market conditions.
What We Think
This is no real surprise. The good demand for IT and TV panels over the last year combined with the cut in capacity has allowed much better pricing. However, once prices turn down again, Samsung will certainly switch off the capacity. In the past, it has also closed plants ‘early’ to re-configure them for new applications, but that seems unlikely given how much the firm is doing at the moment. (BR)
