Samsung Begins Trial Production of 115-Inch RGB MicroLED-Backlit TV

Samsung is quietly testing trial production of a 115-inch RGB MicroLED-backlit LCD TV, signaling its next step in ultra-premium home displays.

Despite the branding, this is not a self-emissive MicroLED TV but an LCD model that uses true red, green, and blue microLED elements as its backlight. This approach bypasses traditional white LEDs and quantum dots, delivering pure color reproduction and more precise local dimming for better contrast.

Reports indicate initial manufacturing is taking place at Samsung’s Vietnam facility, with a potential launch window set for late 2025. The screen is being positioned as a flagship model targeting luxury buyers and high-end commercial spaces.

This RGB-backlight method is considered an intermediate step toward full MicroLED TVs, which remain prohibitively expensive to mass-produce at large sizes.

“By using discrete RGB LEDs for backlighting, Samsung narrows the gap between conventional LCD and true self-emissive technology while keeping costs within reach of premium buyers,” a Korean industry source commented.

If released as planned, it could become one of the most color-accurate LCD-based TVs ever produced.
