Samsung and Stanford researchers develop a novel Metaphotonic OLED structure that enables high performance OLED displays

What They Say

Scentists from Samsung and Standford University, with support from Hangyang University, have published a paper explaining a new methoid of making coloured OLEDs that could support 10,000ppi and are said to be twice as efficient as WOLEDs. The devices work by using nano-patterned metasurface mirrors behind the IKED device, The layer uses different patterns in the layer to produce different colours, without needing layers of different thickness, simplifying production. The patterns use resonance to create different colours.

What We Think

Of course, this is R&D, but the level of interesting R&D announcements over the last few weeks is amazing, with potential breakthroughs in areas including lifetime and efficiency. (BR)
