Samsung A6 & A6+ Feature OLEDs

Samsung has added the Galaxy A6 and A6+ to its range of smartphones. The smartphones have 5.6″ 720 x 1480 and 6.0″ 1080 x 2220 format Super AMOLED displays which means 18.5:9 aspect ratio on both phones. The phones have octa core processors at 1.6GHz and 1.8GHz, respectively (Exynos 7870 and Snapdragon 450), and both phones are available with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage or 4GB of RAM and 64GB of flash. The storage can be upgraded with up to 256GB via a microSD slot.

The phones have different cameras. The A6 has a rear 16MP camera and 16MP on the front, while the A6+ has dual (16MP and 5MP) cameras on the rear and a 24MP camera for selfies. The battery capacities are 3,000 mAh and 3,500 mAh.

Analyst Comment

Samsung’s press release said that the USB connector is USB Type-B, although third party sources say it is Type-C. We couldn’t get definitive confirmation at press time.

A year or two ago, this kind of mid-range smartphone would have used an LCD, but Samsung has pushed AMOLED further down the range. (BR)
