Recently (Display Monitor Vol 21 No 42), it was said that Sony Mobile was looking to withdraw from the smartphone business in emerging markets. Now sources in the Taiwan supply chain say that the company will amend its flagship smartphone release policy, as well.
Sony will change its launch schedule to introduce one flagship phone each year, rather than two. The shift has been caused by the slowing hardware competition and maturing high-end smartphone market, sources said. Apple is currently the only other major vendor using such an approach.
