Taiwan’s Ruggon has created the Ruggon Rextorm rugged tablet range. Created for field work, the tablets feature 1,000cd/m² of brightness, dual hot-swappable batteries and capacitive touch supporting gloved operation.
The three tablets (PX-501, PM-521 and PA-501) feature ‘Snapon’ modularity; users can attach modules to extend their functionality, such as magnetic stripe or smartcard readers, NFC and more. Each tablet meets the MIL-STD-810G standards for shock and vibration resistance and are IP65-compliant. They can withstand a drop of 1.5m.
Battery life can be extended by using an optional high capacity unit; this extends the life of the PX-501 and PM-521 (Windows-based) to 12 hours, and the Android-based PA-501 to 22 hours.
Each model has a 10.1″ display (1920 x 1200) and features micro-HDMI, micro-SD, USB 3.0, RS232 and RJ45 ports. They also have a dual pass-through port, to connect via a vehicle dock, Bluetooth 4.0 and optional 4G.
The PX-501 uses an Intel Core i5 (Haswell) processor, with a 120GB or 240GB SSD and 4GB/8GB of RAM. It is supplied with a digitiser. Users can choose Windows 7/8 Pro or Windows Embedded 7/8. The PM-521 is similar, with an Intel Atom (Bay Trail) processor and built-in Trusted Platform Module 1.2. As well as the Windows operating systems, the PM-521 also supports Android.
Ruggon’s PA-501 will only run Android (4.2); it has 32GB of storage and 2GB of RAM, running on a dual-core 1.5GHz TI processor.
