A report in the Chinese media suggests that flexible OLED developer Royole remains close to failing. (Flexible-screen Maker Royole Delays Employee Salaries) One of the directors has posted a blog that highlighted that it may not have enough funds and asked that government ‘at all levels’ actively helps the firm which, the article says, has achieved yield rates of over 80%.
What We Think
Flexible OLED was never going to be easy. I’m not close enough to the Chinese political scene to know whether new or existing investors will come to the rescue or just decide to cut their losses. I have always thought that trying to develop devices as well as displays was just too ambitious. Each of those is tricky enough on its own. (BR)
