What They Say
A week or so ago, I covered Ross Young’s recent overview of the OLED industry (Real Decisions Over OLED To Guide Industry to 2026), so I didn’t cover another blog article that he did looking ahead to 2022. However, there were some things in there that weren’t covered in his talk, especially outside OLED.
- We currently show prices rebounding in Q3’22, supported by the possibility of additional LCD capacity coming offline in Korea in mid-2022
- We expect SDC to fully exit LCD panel production by mid-2022 with LGD also projected to shutdown a couple of lines. LGD will continue to produce LCDs for years though due in part to strong strong IT panel demand from Apple and Samsung’s new LCD TV panel commitment.
- Driver IC constraints are expected to ease in Q1’22, particularly in LCDs, with the large Nexchip fab coming online
- Apple’s Launch of the 27” iMac Pro with MiniLEDs, 120Hz Variable Refresh and Oxide Backplanes
- Many rumors that the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max won’t have a notch but will have punch hole cameras with either touch ID or an under panel IR sensor. This would be a popular move. Also hearing about higher resolution UPCs coming soon.
What We Think
There were a number of other points, but I think we have covered the rest. He did add that volume forecasts for an Apple headset are low, so the price will probably be very high. (BR)
